Zonulin Stool test

Zonulin Stool test

The zonulin marker assesses for hyperpermeability in the gut lining. The lining of the gut is composed of a single layer of cells that are held together by something called tight junctions. These tight junctions are meant to be able to open and close based upon the needs of the system at any particular time. Zonulin regulates the opening of the tight junctions. While this is desirable at times, certain types of infections and gliadin (the oft-problematic protein in gluten) can upregulate zonulin and create chronic intestinal hyperpermeability (aka leaky gut).t

Zonulin may also be suggestive of a leaky brain beyond just a leaky gut.

Description

The Diagnostic Solutions Laboratory GI Microbial Assay Plus (“GI-MAP”)

The GI-MAP (GI-Microbial Assay) is a stool test that quantitatively assesses your microbiome with attention to bacterial, parasitic, and viral pathogens that can cause disease, disrupt the normal microbial balance, and contribute to chronic GI illness, hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, mood and cognitive issues, which includes the following:

  • Parasite and worm infections
  • Candida and H. pylori infections
  • Bacterial health of the large intestine
  • Markers of pancreatic health (elastase) and fat digestion (steatocrit)
  • Marker of beta-glucuronidase (marker of estrogen and phase 2 liver detox)
  • Anti-gliadin IgA for gluten sensitivity
  • Calprotectin for inflammation in the gut
  • SIgA for immunity in the gut
  • Antibiotic and drug resistance
  • Zonulin* (marker of leaky gut and leaky brain) *optional add on marker

What's Included:

  • Simple convenient home test kit shipped to your door
  • Laboratory analysis of your sample and report of findings
  • Clinical review of your results and holistic recommendations
  • **A private health coaching consultation to review your results can be added to your order if desired

The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical and central role in all factors of health, including digestive, immune, metabolic, neuroendocrine, and structural integrity functions.  Assessing GI health with the proper tools can help us get to the root cause of chronic illness.

The GI-MAP (GI-Microbial Assay Plus) quantitatively assesses your microbiome with attention to bacterial, parasitic, and viral pathogens that can cause disease, disrupt the normal microbial balance, and contribute to chronic GI illness, hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, mood and cognitive issues and more.

This simple, highly effective test can be done from the comfort of your own homeand requires a single stool sample.  PCR technology gives us insights into your GI environment to help us uncover hidden sources of your symptoms..

What Is the zonulin optional addition?

The zonulin marker assesses for hyperpermeability in the gut lining. The lining of the gut is composed of a single layer of cells that are held together by something called tight junctions. These tight junctions are meant to be able to open and close based upon the needs of the system at any particular time. Zonulin regulates the opening of the tight junctions. While this is desirable at times, certain types of infections and gliadin (the oft-problematic protein in gluten) can upregulate zonulin and create chronic intestinal hyperpermeability (aka leaky gut).

While the GI Map does test for the anti-gliadin antibody (associated with non-celiac gluten sensitivity) this part of the test can sometimes return negative even if leaky gut is present. The zonulin add-on is useful to see if grains could be causing a leaky gut.

Zonulin may also be suggestive of a leaky brain beyond just a leaky gut. Dr. Michelle believes this is a really great marker.
