Urine toxic and essential elements analysis assesses the retention of toxic metals in the body and the status of essential nutrient elements. Toxic metals do not have any useful physiological function, adversely affect almost every organ system, and disrupt the homeostasis of nutrient elements.  The metals urine test provides insight into whether an individual has a significant heavy metal burden.

Heavy metals are toxic minerals that have no physiological or biological function in the human body. While they are naturally occurring, we are being exposed to increasing amounts of heavy metals in our daily lives due to pollution and the use of chemicals in industry. Even small amounts can contribute to illness, aging, and adversely affect almost every organ system in the body and displace nutrients. High levels of toxic metals deposited in body tissues (including the brain) may cause significant developmental and neurological damage.

This test is helpful to assess the more recent exposure and excretion of metals, but does not assess the total burden. It is also important to use when evaluating the efficiency of chelating treatments.

Urine tests are most sensitive after taking a chelating agent to help extract heavy metals deposited in the tissues and bone.
